My 3.5yr olds dad just turned up, how do I tell my son he has two dads?

[deleted account] ( 2 moms have responded )

My son has only ever met his real dad once, when he was six months old. He's had nothing to do with him or his upbringing, a long story!!! He's now interested in developing a relationship with him. Trouble is I've met someone, nearly two years ago, whom my son now calls dad, he's 3 and a half, and we now have an 8 month old baby boy.....My question is how do I introduce him to his biological dad and should I introduce him as his father/dad?

I wouldnt let him be involved if he hasnt so far...he obviously doesnt want to be a dad if he has only met his son once

I guess that depends on the circumstances of him not being involved in the first place.......has he turned up to be involved on an ongoing basis? Will he have a positive impact on your child? Is he likely to walk out in a month because he realises he really DOESN'T want this? If this is going to be a permanent involvement, then yes, I think you need to be honest with your son about it. But how to tell him, as I said, depends on the circumstances. At 3, this is going to be very confusing for him, but if it is any consolation, at 3, he should adapt to the idea quickly if the relationship is a positive one.
