my 3 year old is not intersted (and extremely slow) in coloring using crayons. Instead he loves to use sketchpens and pens to write (letters etc). His teacher complains about his not coloring properly using crayons. Not sure what is expected at his age and how to increase his interest and speed in this area.

If i try to make him practice, he gets more irritated with this activity and doesnt want to do it anymore. Should i just take it lightly and let him explore in his own way.

he's a boy let him be. boys typically develop slower in this area then girls preferring to run and play (of course there exceptions to this) at three my boy hated coloring I could pick out his from his classmates by which had the least effort lol now 3 years later his is the best in class every time. let him be himself

He's 3. Let him be. :)

Any teacher that complains about a 3 year old 'not coloring properly' probably doesn't know much about 3 year olds....

Take it light and let him explore! Why is he expected to like everything anything. Just keep offering him the crayons every once inawhile either he will or he wont! Wont be using crayons in the bigger grades anyway!
