My 3 year old started pre-K, refuses to sleep and wake others!

Hello Moms,
My toddler is now 3, and has started pre-school, he is on this new stage at home to clime out of his crib at night, we have to constantly call him out on to stay in bed, when in school during nap time, he is given his mat, blanked and pillow (all provided by me) refuses to sleep and like to wake up others. I feel terribly for the teacher and specially for the kids... what should I do?

I agree that not every 3yo needs a nap. Mine were all done by 2.5 years. However, many daycare centers have it as part of the routine and expect the kids to lay down for and hour or so. I don't think it is unreasonable for your son to be expected to stay on a cot or mat and maybe do a quiet activity like look at picture books or use a tablet to "draw" quietly? I don't think he should have to do this for an hour but 30 minutes of quiet time is a learn-able skill. It is time to get him a big boy bed, and I'd skip the whole toddler bed completely and go with a low twin bed.

if he climbs out of his crib... it's time to get rid of the crib.

Some kids at 3 do not nap, nor do they need to do so. They had nap time at my son's preschool, but he did not need a nap... so I picked him up after lunch every day. If your son is not a napper either the teacher needs to find another quiet activity for him to do away from the sleeping kids... or you need to find alternate arrangements for him during that time.
