My 3 year old refuses to have a 'bm' in the potty. She pees no problem and wears underwear all day, but when it comes time to have a bm, she refuses and starts crying if I ask her if she wants to try the potty. She insists on a pull-up. If I leave her in her underwear, she poops in them. Any tips?

Agreed with Christy,if a child has a consipation then they deliberatly hold in their poo in fear of that painful bowel movement...i would do the apple juice,or even mix some prune in,and perhps give her book to look at while on potty, maybe she will be more distrcted by the book.and if she does the BM,give praise or reward her!

Give her 4 ounces of undiluted apple juice AFTER eating a meal. It SHOULD blow it out, but make sure she's on the potty!!!! Same stuff going on with my 3 yr old girl. My understanding, they keep "holding in the poo" and then when they feel the need to go they are constipated. The apple juice is pretty immediate (30 minutes or less in most cases)
