My 3 year old went to the Dr and she had a.UTI, they put her on antibiotics and told me they would call me when they got the urine specimen results in. They called me back 3 days later and told me the culture had come back and there was no blood in her urine, a little bit of lucasites and a little bit of ecoli. They then told me they wanted me to bring her in for an ultrasound and told me it was normal , that they usually did it with little kids that have UTI's . Well I'm a nurse and I've never heard of kids having to have an ultrasound just because they have a.UTI?Im a little freaked out? Should I be?

Leukocytes are just white blood cells, but are definitely a red flag for infection depending on the amount found, and e coli is a bacteria (rod bacteria). So, she has signs of infection, and like I said earlier, I would go. Also if she is potty trained, make sure to teach her front to back. Back to front can lead to infection.

Chances are they want to see how the kidneys look and the bladder to see if anything is inflamed or odd looking....or perhaps to see if there are any signs of stones. If they are asking for an ultra sound, get it done. Was there any evidence of crystals or abnormally high or low ph?
