Hello mommies! My 4yr old daughter just started Pre K school last week. Yesterday she came home with a scratch on her cheek. She told me a boy had scratched her with a card. I got very upset but I couldn't say anything to the teacher because my mother picked her up while I was at work. Today I will be going to pick her up and I want to address her teacher about this incident. But I just don't know how to. I don't want to be rude or start anything. Please mommies help me out with some advice!

What are the policies at your caregiver's for contacting parents?

Clarify with teacher, and explain that you're perhaps confused, because grandma picked up the other day and may not have known to wait for an incident report.

Does not have to be confrontational... just mention to the teacher that you noticed the scratch on her cheek and you were surprised that you did not get a call from the school. Ask the teacher if she was aware and get her side of the story. Compare that to what you daughter told you about the incident. Ask your daughter if she told the teacher and what the teacher did about it (was the boy punished or did it go unnoticed. If there are any discrepancies or if you feel that the teacher was at fault in any way, you are well within your right to bring your concerns to the principal. Starting with the teacher did not notify you that your daughter was injured at school and you were not contacted about it.
