I have very literally tried everything. My son is 5 months old now, and ever since day one I haven't been able to get him to sleep anywhere but on my chest or in my arms. I've been trying for months now to get him to sleep in his crib for nap times. But he refuses. The only way I can get him to sleep is if I rock him in my arms first till he's pretty much asleep, then set him in the crib soooooooo gently so he won't wake up. But if he does happen to notice my arm sliding out from under him, its game over. He's immediately awake and will NOT go back to sleep. I've tried everything. I've tried the 'put him in the crib drowsy method', I've tried the 'let him cry it out method', I've tried getting him into a routine so he knows its nap time by rocking him a bit and snuggling with him and playing his lullabies, but NOTHING works. He will lay in that crib for hours either crying or playing, never going to sleep unless I rock him until he's completely asleep and THEN put him in his crib. He even fights me now when I try and rock him, by crying and trying to push away from me. He literally acts like nap time is torture. I'm losing my mind. PLEASE PLEASE I have no idea what to do at this point. This is my first child and I'm a single mother, so I'm completely lost on all of this.

Check out the babysleepsite.com. they have a lot of resources that might help! It sounds like he has a sleep association and needs you to get to sleep.

Have you tried putting him in a swing? My oldest who is 4 now would only sleep in her swing until she was about 7 months old. Then she got to where she would sleep in her crib for naps and we gradually worked up to nights.

Thank you, but I've tried that too.. but no, bedtime is fine its just naps during the day. And I know he needs them, if he doesn't nap he gets so overtired and won't play or do anything but scream.. ugh maybe he'll grow out of it, but it currently just seems like it's getting worse.

I have had the same problem and now my son is 8mos and he is just now okay with me rocking him, putting him into his pack in play (beside our bed) and have a bottle ready or don't let him drink all the bottle when rocking him.. And if he wakes up when I put him down I put the bottle in his mouth and he goes back to sleep!!! Our doctor said that some babies just don't need naps.. So I only try and rock him once I know 100% he is tired. Sometimes he takes no naps, sometimes one 30min, and a few times taken 2 long naps..
Also- never let him play where you want him to sleep. And if he does cry and scream in his bed (at night when you have to put him down) I just stand there. Pat him.. Whisper to him.. Until he calms down.. That worked for me.. Just was awful on the nights I had to stand there over an hour! But it comforted him I think so things got easier and easier if you are having problems at bedtime too.
