Can anyone help with how I can gradually get him to sleep without doing this

Thankyou, we tried wrapping a little bit looser but I'm sure he knew the difference. I think immune maybe thinking it's more a problem than it actually is and just need to accept this is what he likes.
My worry was once he gets a bit stronger will I have to keep going in to wrap him once he's strong enough to break his arms free so was trying to tackle it now, but after 2 days of lack of sleep from a baby that usually sleeps 12 hours and he's totally out of sorts in the day and crying I just resorted back to wrapping.

Well, this will not be constructive...but...

My eldest was a swaddler. I had to wrap him every night until he was about 2. Then he'd stop asking me to wrap him, but I still had to tuck him in 'mummy style' every night.

To this day (he's 19) he will wrap himself as tightly as he can in his bedcovers.

I'm a 'wrapper' too. The tighter the better.

If you wish, you can gently try to wrap him more loosely, in a progressive manner until he's just very lightly swaddled, but I never saw a big problem in swaddling (and later tight tucking) my kiddo. It makes them feel secure, and mine always slept better.

Try giving him warm tight clothes or wrap him tightly and gradually take the layors off.
