My 5 year old doesn't think I love her

I have a 5 year old and for the most part it is always just me and her. Dad is completely out of the question. Whenever she gets upset over ANYTHING, she attacks me. She has now started to yell "I know you don't love me" or "you don't like me". Sometimes she's even told me that she wants to move with my mom and proceeded to pack her things and run out of the house. After she calms down, usually after a 45 min tantrum, she hugs me and we talk about what just happened. She always tells me that she doesn't know why she gets upset but she does state that she gets so angry that she wants to hurt me or herself. Not sure what I can or should do. This is becoming extreme, last night she slapped my glasses off my face and repeatedly swung the broom stick at me. She becomes sooooo strong when she's angry that I can barely control her.

Take her to a counselor to be evaluated. That behavior is VERY similar to what I used to deal w/ on a near daily basis w/ my son and he was diagnosed w/ anxiety and depression at 5.5 years old. Time, patience, a little more maturity, and 6 months of counseling REALLY helped us both out. A good counselor will not just work w/ her, but also talk to you and be a great sounding board and support system.

Your daughter needs firm consequences for violent outbursts, but a lot of patience and understanding about the out of control emotions causing her to behave like this.
