My 5 year old son's kindergarten teacher called him a CRY BABY.

My son came home from school Friday and told me that his teacher called him a "cry baby" in front of the class. They were in a reading group and it was his turn to read from a stapled packet. He could not find the correct page and he started to fumble to papers and then proceeded to cry. She said, "okay we need to start off because of this cry baby." I mailed to teacher this weekend knowing she would get it today when she checked her mail this morning. I asked, " My son said you called him a cry baby. What happened?" I have yet to get a response and she has always answered my emailed very promtly.

I do not think this is right. My thoughts are it gives the rest of the class/kids the license to call him names as well. Also, it sends a message that it is okay to bully someone if they are weak. A kindergarten teacher should NOT do this! Pull him aside and talk to him. What are your thoughts? I need some advice. THANKS!

I'd be upset as well. If she doesn't have the courtesy to reply to you, you do have a couple options. 1 - speak with the principal or superintendent about it. If they do not respond, you can go to the school board to discuss it. Last, you can file a bullying report with the Department of Education, although that seems quite extreme for one incident.

I'd say if she hadn't replied by tomorrow morning, the principle would be answering for her! That is crazy, you gave her an chance to answer your son's charge. I think that'd be the next step!

I would be talking to the principle. I think if this happened it is highly inappropriate. I agree, if the teacher is allowed to call kids names, it gives license to the kids to do the same. She's probably embarrassed by the situation, but I do think it needs to be addressed by her superior.
