Contact the school board. Keep a list of who and when you talked to them, messages left, copies of reports etc. If there is video get a copy. If they have a board meeting that you can go to go, they open the floor for comments and questions that become part of the written record.

I'd blast the school district. Actually, I have had this happen.

Make sure that there is video showing that your son never entered the bus. Then call teh superintendent of schools in your area. Outline the situation, and let him/her know that in the event of a mishap, the school would be directly responsible, because they have, in essence, lost your kid.

Now, you also need to give him an emergency phone, one that has the preset numbers for you, another responsible adult such as his aunt, and the police or emergency line for your area. He will then have means to call you if something like this happens again.

I had that teacher's proverbial head on a plate by the time I was done. I had a classroom aide to make sure that my son was delivered to where he was supposed to be each day, and then the after school care would call me to ensure that he'd arrived. The superintendent of schools was quite helpful, actually, simply because the school WOULD be held responsible in the event of a mishap, and they can't afford that type of litigation.

Best of luck.

Ours was the first day of school, and RB wasn't supposed to be on a bus...Thank God he was a resourceful kid, because I'd never shown him where the bus stop was, nor how to get home from there, but he recognized the landmarks, and made it home fine. We were in a place where we didn't lock the back door, so he could get inside, which he did. Made himself a snack, watched tv for a bit, and went to the neighbors.

He wasn't upset until he saw that I was upset...and then he was a wreck, bless his heart. He kept saying "momma, I told them I wasn't supposed to ride the bus, but they wouldn't listen". I told him it wasn't his fault, and that he did just fine by knowing his way home, and what a big boy he'd been.

I found the superintendents name online, and called the man at home, had it out with him that night. The next day I had both a written and verbal apology from the teacher, and from the principal (Small school, only about 10 kids in each class, so doubly inexcusable). You keep after them, Lisa. 2nd week of school...by then everyone should really know which kid goes where, and immediately correct any problem without losing the poor kid!

My understanding is that when class is over, all the kn kids line up and get on the bus by names. How the heck they check the paper and mark my child name off as on the bus. I was so pissed off !!!! The principal said she didn't mean to over look him. That she sound fishy to me and it's not over yet!

Shawnn is a lot better than me cause you mess with my babies and it's not pretty, and heads will literally roll. (and yes the head of transportation's secretary did get popped upside the head at my son's old district - it didn't help that she had a smart mouth either)

Ultimately the district settled out of court - the first day of school they put my son on the wrong bus and it took 2 hours to locate him, the 3rd day of school they put him on the wrong bus (no one knew what bus the kids were to be on since the letter they sent in the mail had totally different bus numbers than what actually came to pick up and drop off). The district had a bus for each school building and only the bus for the bigger kids came and that driver didn't let the parents know that he was picking up for my son's school as well that morning (so not good with a sick newborn outside and it is 9 degrees outside in a snow storm) and the straw that broke the camels back was one day the driver didn't stop long enough for my son to get off the bus - bus stopped and the boy in the front of the bus got of and my son was sitting in the back and was walking to the front to get of when the driver closed the door and pulled off....state law mandates that they count how many children get of per stop - thankfully my neighbor drove to the stop and we could hop in and chase the bus down (and glad no police were around since we just folded the stroller up and tossed it in the car and my daughter had to sit in my lap)

In that case.... I agree with Shawnn (I say that a lot...lol). Totally the school's fault. If he's a bus kid... they 'should' keep all the K bus kids together until they get ON the bus. Especially in just the second week of school.

Generally, in Kindy, it's their teachers, or a classroom aide. Was this the first day/week of school?

I called the school district and filed an report. The principal wouldn't tell me who's responsible for putting the kindegardners on the bus.

School is over at 3:00pm! My son was found by his aunt 45 min. later 2 blocks away from the school. The teacher told she put my son on the bus. Which was an lie! I called transportation and asked to view the tapes. Guess what my son was never seen getting on the bus after school. Upset!

Why was he 2 blocks away from the school? Is that his bus stop? Was he alone and unattended before school? Why? Was this during school? After school?
