My daughter is 6 months old and weighs 12lbs (born 8lb 5oz). she was off to a very slow start to her weight gain and also had GERD, a gastrointestinal issue. She had really bad reflux for a few months and now seems to be doing fine. We see her Doctor regularly and have also been seeing a GI Dr. They both seem to be a little worried about her weight gain, but my baby seems great. Eats well, developmentally ahead of other babies, she is happy, smiley and seems fie. What is most frustrating to me is that their worry makes me feel like im not doing the right things. We keep a sleep and feeding log, she eats on average 570calories per day... yes i keep track... lol.

I breast fed exclusive for the first few months, then did breast and formuls, just up till she was 5 1/2 months se is on solids and formula only.
I just want to know about other 6mo olds, their weights, any experiences with GERD.. all that kind of stuff. I just think talking to other mommys will help us.

she is in the 25th percentile for height and just under the 0 percentile for weight.

avacado is a great food for babies, its the only thing higher in fat and calories than breastmilk.

Incorporating it into her daily diet might help boost her caloric and fat intake without feeling like you are jamming her face full of food. Its also really good for her. Just mash it up and feed, it freezes really well so you can do big batches, freeze in ice cube trays and stor in ziploc freezer bags and the nuke a cube or 2 in place of half a jar of baby food etc.

It is a great first foods as well !

My 6 month old is also only 12 pounds (Born 6lbs 9 oz). She had terrible reflux for the first few months as well. She just had her 6 month checkup and the Dr seemed concerned about her weight although her head and is growing fine and she is meeting her milestones. She's happy, smiling, talking, etc...

I'm also exclusively breast feeding. We have incorporated avocados and other purees in her diet and mixed in some formula. She still spits up and does the 'gulping' so I think she still suffers a little from the reflux.

I see you posted this last year so I was just curious how her growth has been since then. And also how long until all the reflux symptoms were gone.

My daughter weighed 7#5oz when she was born and after 2 months seemed to stop putting on weight. At one point she was in the 50-75th percentile for height (I can't remember the details) but almost dropping off the charts for weight. I had to supplement breast feeding with a concentrated formula, at around 7 months she weaned herself and continued to have the concentrated formula and stayed around 3rd percentile for weight.

She has always been very active and cheerful, no developmental issues. Our pediatrician was somewhat concerned but backed off when we told her that both my husband and I had been very skinny babies. Our Daughter is now 17 months and is hovering just above the 5th percentile for weight. When she started drinking milk and eating solids she started to put on more weight . However she has never had GERD, was just a distracted breastfeeder :).

Our daughter was 6.13lbs at birth. She still has a more difficult time putting on weight but it eating so much more now so hoping that helps. She just turned 1 on the 12 of this month and was weighed today and is 17lbs now. She was about 10 lbs at 6 months. She had a cleft palate but we didn't know she had it for the first 3 days (she had it repaired in January of this year) so I was trying to breastfeed and didn't know what I was doing wrong (our first child latched on right away and no problems at all with him he will be 3 in July). I had a few lactation nurses trying to help me out and they thought she was doing fine but I knew she wasn't sucking right and then 3 days after she was born we found out why she wasn't sucking well. She lost a lb in those 3 days because she wasn't getting anything. She has always been in the below 5% tile for weight but is really long. She is 31inches now. I am sure you are doing your best and she sounds like she is doing great if she is developing on time and such. our dr just kept telling us that she was most likely just going to be a petite little thing and he wasn't worried about her at all because she was developing at the right time and stuff. To me your little girl seems fine because she is 2lbs more than our daughter was at the age. But hope she starts putting on the weight for you because I know how hard it is to worry about them.

My now 14 month old was born at 6lbs 13 oz and had HORRIBLE GERD, and was lactosintolerant. She also started out really slow on the whole growth curve (wore nerborn and preme clothes for 2-3 months) but at 6 months she was about 18 pounds. Since then she has been in the 98th percentile. At 14 months she is24 pounds. I personally think as long as she is growing and is happy and meeting the important milestones then you shouldn't worry too much. The drs are up our butts about our son who stopped growing from 18 months till he was over 3 and has grown 3 almost 4 sizes in a year. He went from being in the 98th percentile and sat between 5-15 percentile and now he is up to the 40th for BMI and I am ok with that.
