My 6 year old daughter's tantrums are getting too much

My daughter, Maisie, is six, and she is perfect at her school, but she can blow up at the slightest thing. She screams, shouts, flails, kicks, punches both me and my husband, the lot. My husband can take a lot, but what doesn't help, is that when he gets angry, he is almost as bad as her. My 14 year old, although she gives me grief, was/is nowhere near as bad as her. When is was young, my mum was abusive and me and my baby brother and sister had to go into a childrens home. When Maisie gets going, she knows how to push all my buttons, saying things like "You don't love me" and "You are a bad mother". She also accuses me of not caring, and I think I may care too much. I am afraid to take her places, as she embarrasses me deeply. I need help. I don't know how to deal with her. For example, at dinner today, she threw a tantrum because her food wasn't ready yet. She proceeded to scream and yell for a long time. She also (although I didn't see this) was smirking at her dad, who got very angry and looked as if he was going to hit her. I had to step in between them or else I don't know what would have happened. Please help me, I'm afraid someone will call the police and they will take my kids away.
