i was diagnosed with bipolar rapid cycling about 7 years ago. i have 7 other diagnosis that fall under it. unfortunately, im also atypical and it took 26 meds to finally get to where i am. thank God, because in april of 2012 both my children were diagnosed with bipolar. first, my son. he was getting terrible rages where he would hold the back of his head in pain. found out it was a rush to his brain stem, he had also had a few panic attacks and had alot of anxiety. he has now been on abilify and at first it was making him numb but we cut the dose down and im waiting to see how he does. now, to my daughter. this is where i need advice, ive been through 2 drs with both my children, the 1st dr told them to stop thier behavior. yea, stop bipolar. he thought she was adhd and i knew she wasnt but we tried 3 meds that failed. new dr also thought adhd, we tried 2 more that failed. i consulted with her pediatrician and he told me if they are not going to treat her for the matter at hand, which he and i believe is rapid cycling bipolar, then we will find someone who can. next visit he tried abilify and she got violent, now were on risperidone and depakote. its been 2 weeks. i see no change. i know it takes about 4 weeks to really see a difference, but its killing me to watch her keep going through this on a daily basis. especially the depressed mood. sometimes, i feel guilty because its genetic, but i know that i just have to be strong for the both of them. we have a wonderful relationship. my husband is so very supportive and we all laugh alot together. im grateful to God for te support system we all have together. my query to you is, has anyone experienced my situation with either my son or daughter? they say because of thier ages they can only diagnose both with bipolar nos, which in my mind is bologna. any opinions appreciated and i am so thanful for finding this group. thank you in advance.
