My son is 7 1/2 months old and he refuses to drink his formula! He eats some type of solid with every feeding and he loves it. Either a fruit, veggie, a dinner/dessert , or cereal along with his bottle. I always offer the bottle 1st then whens he's half way done with it I will start with the solids, but lately for like the past month he really hasn't wanted the bottle. Now it's to the point where he will only drink like 1 oz per feeding if that. He is very healthy boy and maintains a good weight. He will drink juice out of his sippy but not the formula. He just spits it back out. I know they say to wait until they are a year old before they start drinking cows milk but will it hurt him? I offered him vitamin D milk and he drank it. I don't know what to do, should I just give him the milk?

Stick w/ the formula. I'd probably cut down on the solids and try to increase the formula. Have you tried only offering solids once or twice a day for a while and see if he will drink more formula that way? I'd also cut out the juice completely for now.

Nothing wrong w/ him eating solids, but breast milk or formula is supposed to make up the bulk of their diet until a year and if he's not drinking it I'd be making other adjustments until he is.

Sounds like your son may have acid reflux or something.......My 9 month old has been eating solids for 3 months now, and by solids I mean whatever we have for dinner, and she is now off of baby food. I am going to start giving her cow's milk at 10 months, just to give her 1 more month of the vitamins and nutrition. My doctor said that as long as she is eating all adult food, then she should be getting the right nutrition. But if he is still eating baby food, and not adult food, it may be too early to switch to whole milk, since whole milk is not a meal, where formula is more filling.

As much as he likes the whole milk and dislikes the formula I think it's important to talk with his pediatrician if you haven't already. He is still really young to be moving onto whole milk. It's great that you are including calcium rich foods in his diet but even yogurt can be tough on a baby's tummy when they are that young. I'm sure it's not easy having him refuses the formula but if I were you I'd what to do what was best for my child. There are legit reasons for waiting to introduce certain things. Good luck!

He weighs 21 lbs and will be 8 months in a few days. He loves his food and eats it like a meal. Cereal n fruit for breakfast a veggie n juice for lunch a meal with dessert for dinner and so on. He takes prevacid for his reflux and his formula has been changed 5 times since birth, he is a very stubborn boy and will not take some formulas at all (he hates the taste I guess). The older he gets the less interested he is in his bottle. I even tried it in a sippy cup and still nothing. He is litterly only drinking about 8-10 oz of formula now a day as to where before he would drink 7 oz bottle with each meal. He really really does not like it. I gave him a 3 oz bottle of vitamin D milk just to see what he would do. I think he liked it, he never spit any out, he smiled and finished the all of it!

Maybe ask your doctor about changing formula? Maybe he just doesn't like whatever brand you're using. They all taste like crap to me but I'm not a baby lol I would imagine they would have subtle differences in flavor to a baby though. Also, cereal in his bottle adds nothing nutritional to his diet and is not something I would do. You're just giving him filler that way, but he's literally getting nothing from it other than maybe getting fuller faster. As for starting him on cow's milk, I wouldn't do it. The reason they give age guidelines for certain foods like milk, peanuts, eggs, etc, is because if you introduce those foods too early it *could* instigate a food allergy to the item. And, like Queen Teresa said, for the first year of life, a baby's main nutrition should be coming from formula or breast milk, with solids as a backup. And honestly, I'm not positive but I think solids at that young of an age (before a year) are probably mostly to just literally introduce kids to new things. They're not getting a TON of nutrition from the solids, but they're learning to like the taste of things that aren't formula or breastmilk. Best of luck Momma :)

Edited to add: If your doc ok's you switching formula, do it slowly! He/she should tell you how to do it, but if they don't, basically just start out replacing one ounce of the old formula with the new a few times a day for a few days and then gradually up the amount. Maybe someone else can help me here? I just can't remember the right timeline (amazing how much you forget in 4 years lol) but I know it's slowwwwly so that it doesn't upset their digestion.

Our son was the same way but not until around 11 months of age. 7.5 months seems a little young to not have formula but what do you do when he doesn't want it? I'd talk to his pediatrician and just go from there. Good luck!

When he drinks just the formula only he spits it all up, thats why the doctor said to give him food with every feeding. He needs the solids to help keep the formula down. And as for the juice he olny gets 6 oz with dinner. Even if I don't give him food and just put the cereal in his bottle to thicken it up he spits it up and/or he refuses to even take it, but then cries because he's hungry.

I've tried the no foods, but he still won't take the formula. Still only like an oz and then he will scream because he's hungry. And when he will/ or did take the formula he just spits it all up and thats why the doctor said food with every feeding because he needs something solid in his belly. As for the juice he gets it with his dinner thats it and only 6 oz.
