My 7-month old son will only eat pureed fruit and VERY few vegetables. Has anyone else experienced this with their baby? My daughter always ate everything I offered to her, so I'm not sure how to react to my son. Any suggestions?

Hi try mixing some pureed vegetables with the fruit, just a little veg and gradually add more to it, that way your gradually inducing the taste of veg. He is proberly enjoying the sweeter taste of the fruit. I no it doent sound very nice veg an fruit together but its worth a try! Good luck!!!

Until 12 months, they are still getting all their nutrients from breastmilk or formula, so don't be too concerned. My daughter was strange in that she didn't like the runny consistancy of jarred baby fruit/veggies. So I either had to make my own and leave it thick/pulpy or mix in baby cereal (rice/oatmeal) to thicken it up. You could also see if he would prefer a sweeter veggie (carrots/sweet potatoes) and get him used to that before trying say green beans. :) Try a diff temp like Jenna said. My son refused to eat anything cold until he was over a year, everything had to be warmed. Be persistant and he'll come along.

My son was like that. I had the hardest time getting him to eat certain things. But I ended up mixing in the veggies with a fruit that he loved.. The pureed Bananas masked the veggies very well and he would eat them down. then as he got older I would cut up pieces of fruit and veggies and mix them and let him pick them up himself and he loved being able to "play" with his food.. Its all about the tricks lol good luck

Hi, I am also having REAL trouble getting my 6.5 month old son to eat vegetables. I have tried EVERYTHING. All different types, textures, purees, lumps, chunks, mixed with fruit, hot, cold, etc etc. There is nothing I haven't tried. I make all my own baby food, using organic fruit & veggies. He is breastfed, so I know he gets most of his nutrients from that, I'm just wondering whether this is gonna be a real issue, later on down the road...He'll have 2 tiny teaspoons of anything with veggies in and then bat it away, cry, etc! Bring out the peach & mango puree however, and I can't get it in his mouth quick enough!! LOVES it. I am now wondering if I should stop giving him the foods he loves and focus on getting him to start liking the others more. Or does it really not matter too much at this stage?? Everyone has such different opinions, I'm just a bit stuck! I also can't give him rice cereal/porridge, as they tend to make him constipated. Tried wholegrain pasta with grated cheese, mashed potato, etc. Not interested. Meat puree, not interested. He is a fan of sucking the juices out of chunks of steak, which is a great source of iron, but it's not really eating, is it?!
i had this problem with my son who is now in second grade. i didn't find out until he got to ffirst grade that the reason for this back when he was a baby was a developmental issue and low muscle tone. which ment he didn't have strong jaw muscles to chew and thus he didn't eat solid food till he was over one years old. at the time i just thought he was late bloomer. it was tell tale sign of bigger things to come. as far as learning disabilities and mental processing issues. this probably won't be your issue but i would def keep a close eye on his development and take him to a "develpmental pediatrian" specifically. have them evaluate his muscle tone. hope that info helps.

Hi... I made almost all of my kids' baby food and they ate everything even asparagus. Now they eat only canned green beans and corn on the cob. It's scary. You could try to steam some apples or pears until they are soft enough to be swallowed in small chunks in case they dont chew them weel but also if you want to just star making the puree smooth and gradually get lumpier. Also if you make a fruit slowly mix in the veggies a little more each time until he has all veggie. Sorry to keep going on. I read alot and tried everything until it worked. :o)

My son is terrible about vegetables and not great about fruit. One thing I do to help is buy the 100% juice V8 Splash - usually the darker ones (Strawberry or Blueberry)... they are a full serving of vegetables, but I don't stop there... I also add a "dose" of Odwalla's "Superfood" - the green stuff. Then at least I know he's getting *something* green in him besides the very few bites of broccoli I have to almost force him to eat. I'm not into forcing food (since i was forced as a kid) so he's been a challenge.

It has been a while since I have had a toddler but I think it is worth the time to puree it if they will eat it! My kids, 8,13 and 20 all love ketchup but if they find a hunk of tomato in something they turn their nose up, which is why I still have a good blender!

Try feeding your baby vegetables first during a feeding while he is still quite hungry. As others have said, sweet potatoes is a vegetable most babies enjoy. Experiment with different vegetables. Keep trying but don't sweat it!

What kind of veggies does he eat? My son really enjoys sweet potatoes and butternut squash. They are both sweet like fruits. Sweet potatoes are such a super food. Have you ever tried avocado? The creamy consistency is great, plus they contain lots of good fat. I second the comment on not worrying about it too much. Babies main nutrition source is Mama's milk and/or formula for their first year. Solids are more for experimenting and testing out different textures and tastes. He'll come around.

Fruits are generally pretty sweet, so naturally if you introduce fruits to someone they will prefer them to the blander meats and the sometimes bitter vegies. With my next baby (March) I will introduce fruits last and infrequently because of my tribulations in the past. If you try to mix bites (two bites of fruit...then sneak in a vegie) you may have some luck or try mixing a small amount of the two foods in a bowl to see if the sweetness will help the other flavor go down. If all else fails; give her the food that you want her to eat, when she won't eat well - let her have milk or cereal, then give her the food you wanted her to eat again. Don't worry, she will not let herself go hungry.

When I first started feeding my daughter solid foods I started with vegetables rather than fruits because if you feed them the fruits first they won't want to try the bitter vegetables after enjoying the sweet fruits. All I suggest to you is to just keep trying and mix it up (fruits and vegetables together). You shouldn't worry all too much as long as you know he's getting the required amounts of everything in is diet for how old he is.

My first boy did the very same thing and still has the problem to this day. No probs eating fruit or meat and will eat potatao, but even when I mix veggies in with anything he either spits it out or gags. Although he doesnt eat it I just keep dishing it up for him and 2 weeks ago he ate his first orange vegetable. YAY. MY grandmother was feeding him and he actually took it which absolutely shocked me so maybe get someone apart from you or your hubby to give it a try?

My son too only eats pureed fruits. He just turned one, and I still can't get him to eat meats. I just took him in to the Doctor for his check up, and she said as long as he is getting proteins, like eggs and oats, like a vegetarian would, he is ok. I still try to mix up ham and pineapple, sweet potatoes and applesauce, and sweet corn with applesauce, try mixing the fruits with the others that she won't eat...it sometimes works. I had the same problrm with my daughter who is now 19 months, She was picky about what we would give her unitl she was about 13 months, You can try mixing the veggies and other foods into the fruit, start out with a little then gradually add more with each meal.
