My 7 year old and school

My 7 year old isn't into school. He just doesn't seem to like it at all, I have to constantly tell him what to do and how to do it. I always tell him that it's important to do well in school and with education he'll be able to learn and be someone with so much potential. My 10 year old daughter is the opposite, she loves to learn and is always trying to learn more and more. Ji know kids are not all the same, but I just don't know what else to say to him to get him to focus.

I agree with Sarah. School is a necessity, and the sooner he starts getting good study habits, the better off he'll be. Tell him once, don't nag. If he doesn't follow through, then he needs consequences EVERY TIME. Consistency is key.

Many 7 yo boys don't find school to be worth their time. Make sure there isn't a problem with his teacher, other students or his learning ability. Once that is ruled out, give him a bit of time to get interested. Take care to not compare him to his sister as that will not motivate him to improve, rather he will feel worse about himself and perform even more poorly, You should not have to nag or remind him to complete his work. Tell him one time, let him know you will help him with questions and then set a time for the work to be done. If it isn't done then there should be a consequence; no TV, no dessert or video games.
