Hi. I would like to know if it is to soon to dye my 7 year old daughter's hair? She has been bugging me for over a year!

Really, because the kids at school don't last that long!Seven and dying hair,I'd say no too young!Even if she just dyed the ends it will damage her hair!

I'd not let a 7 yo dye her hair. It isn't good for your hair and it is a hassle to keep up. Are you going to do it at home or at a salon, as that can be pricey. Learning to love yourself the way your are is a life skill. What is next? A nose job, colored contact?

I think you need to address the reasons WHY she wants to dye her hair. Why is she not happy with what she was born with? This is concerning in a 7 year old.....

Hello.. in my opinion it wouldn't be a good idea. Not only would it damage her hair but her scalp and skin. She is only 7 and yes she will bug you but I have to agree with the other mom, try out different hair 'do's' besides it would be fun...

I noted earlier in the thread that my daughter did Kool-Aid. First, this mother is talking about dying her roots not her tips and the Kool-Aid lasted over three months! As part of our school dress code i had to take her to get two inches trimmed off her ends because the Koo-aid did not fade. I really thought it would last a week or two in the sun and swimming but it lasted all summer!

Esther has a great suggestion, go on you tube and find creative hairstyles. You'd be amazed of the creative tricks out there. That will shift the focus from coloring. If it really is about the roots, then I'd say no, she'll be coloring every 6 weeks for the rest of her life.

My daughter asked me once due to seeing a couple of girls at her school with dyed hair. She is 8. I told her simply that that could damage her hair. She loves her hair. Also I don't think it's appropriate for a child of that age until they're an adult.

I would not bleach/dye the whole head of hair for this reason. It sets a dangerous precident about what is actually important. I wonder why it is even an issue for her? My 7 yr old would never notice this type of thing. She has, however, asked if she can put a pink streak in her hair next summer (she just turned 8) because she saw a girl at the pool with a pink streak in her bangs and thought it looked cool. I told her yes, that would be fun and we would have my stylist do a demi-permanent color on it after school lets out. To me that's different than dying it all the way because her roots are changing color.

I'd like to know if she wants to do the tips, streaks, highlights, or change the color entirely? If she want to change her whole head, what color and why?

I agree with Jodi. At 7 I wasn't even thinking about changing my hair colour, I was more interested in having fun.
