My son knows to go to the loo when he needs to go but some times he just does it in his pants. Iv tried reward charts and confiscating his things and even get him to clean his own underwear but still he continues to do it in his pants. I'm about to go crazy because know matter how hard I try nothing I do seems to be working. PLEASE HELP

Is there a possibility of autism? I knew someone who was taking care of a child that old, maybe even older and he's autistic and he did that too. He may also doing it for attention even if it is negative. Maybe it's a bowel problem too. I'd talk to the doctor.

I strongly suggest you go see a doctor, he can refer you to a child specialist to help your son deal with any anxiety that may have come up due to the separation....

Oh my, you never know, that could be it. Does the father come visit at all?

The problem has been off and on for two -three years, thats why I am getting so frustrated. I was thinking maybe was something to do with the separation of myself and his father because I did read somewhere that sometimes when children go through a traumatic time in their life something like this can happen but mostly in boys, their toilet ability can bounce back to the age as early as two. But I thought this would have stopped by now.

Thank for your comment. At first I thought there was a medical reason to, so had him checked out but there is no medical reason for this. I then looked at it being for attention seeking because there are days when he does really well so we think that what ever we did, has finally worked, then just like that its happened again. Even when hes well behaved he does it sometimes so we changed our approach and when he did do it, instead of getting cross we would comfort him and reassure him that everyone has mishaps sometimes so he would try harder at going to the loo. But now he can sit there for a long time not even caring what hes done until we realise where the smell is coming from.

I hate to be the first one to say this, and pls don't panic and go craycray before completely assessing your situation but........

This is usually a tell-tale sign of sexual abuse. This is also a sign of incontinence problems. Lastly, this is also a sign of rebellion.

An "accident"? Okay. Continuous occurrence? Red flag . I would look a little deeper. Especially if this is something that "suddenly" started happening and "out of nowhere."
