My 8 month old daughter has the flu, and will not eat solids suddenly, and for the past couple days only drinks a few ounces of formula at her meals. The doctor reccommended pedialyte, but she refuses to drink it. Any advice? Thanks!

This happened with my daughter as well. What her pediatrician told me was that as long as she continued to take fluids that she would be fine. It can be as little as a tablespoon an hour. You can also try the Pediapops which is simply pedialyte frozen. I know it is hard especially when they are sick and you want to be sure they are getting enough vitamins but as she begins to feel better she will gravitate back to the solids.
Just make sure to look up the signs and symptoms of dehydration because it happens very quickly in little ones. Obvious ones are no tears when she cries, little to no urine output, dry mouth/lips. It is so hard to see little ones sick. Good luck to you.

My 17 month has the stomach flu right now. He is refusing to eat except for dry toast. He also hates pedialyte. It does taste awful. Even the unflavored mixed with apple juice he wants nothing to do with. I've been giving him gatorade- a little bit watered down. I asked the doctor and he said that's fine. Hope this helps.

I have a 7 year old and a 5 year old and since day 1 I have always used gatorade mixed with water. When they are sick that is all they get and now whenever they get a bug they immediately start asking for the gatorade. Keeping the kiddos hydrated is the #1 priority with any sickness.

Make popsicles out of the pedialyte and or make popsicles out of diluted jello mix and let her go. She will suck on the popsicles better and more than anything else then she will get the fluids she needs and will not loose too much of her appetite. Do not make her eat any solids if her stomach is upset and then when she is OK with the popsicles start her on puddings or yogurts. The flu only lasts 24-72 hours it depends on how you treat the virus while your daughter is sick with it. Good luck it is not as hard as it seems, and remember this for the future viruses your family will endure with your daughter it will come in handy. Oh by the way, NO FORMULA, her stomach is too sensitive with the virus and feeding her the formula while the virus is in her stomach makes it worst. I can just imagine the pain she must be in from trying to digest something so hard when her stomach is on fire with the virus. Think about how you feel when you have the flu virus then think about that baby and she can't really tell you how she is feeling. Be safe....

MY FAMILY DOCTOR TOLD ME WHEN MY DAUGHTER WAS GOING THROU THAT AS LONG AS YOU KEEP HER HYDRATED SHE WILL BE OKAY BUT HE TOLD ME TO MAKE SURE THAT WHEN I GIVE HER SOME WATER TO DRINK ADD SOME SUGAR AND SALT TO HER WATER THIS IS SIMIALAR TO THE FLUID THAT THEY GIVE IN THE HOSPITAL THROU THE IV AND THIS WILL MAKE SURE THAT SHE FEELS FULL AND HYDRATED. THIS WILL AT LEAST KEEP HER SAFE AND HYDRATED AND HE ALSO TOLD ME TO GET GATORADE AS WELL THAT SHOULD HELP

It tends to be strong for them I was told to dilute it with water and put it in a bottle. My son got dehydrated and ended up in the hospital. Watch for those signs if they are getting worse or don't change bring her in if for nothing else a peaceful mind.
