My daughter and I just got done with her first 4th grade conference. The teacher was having Kaylie show me what she has been working on for the last couple weeks. Once Kaylie got done showing me her work, her teacher informed me that Kaylie is really behind in reading and also she has a hard time staying focused. She then showed me other kids in the classes assignments, which were completely finished. They had been working on these projects for the last week and every other kids work looked like it. Kaylie's looked like she had worked on it for an hour max. This was a huge wake up call for me.
Kaylie has had an issue for a while with listening and staying focused at home, but this was the first time a teacher has said anything to me. At home Kaylie is constantly "forgetting" simple tasks that she was told to do, and cannot sit and do one task with out getting side tracked and getting up and asking some random question. I have always chalked it up to just being a kid and I have been trying to point out times that she is getting off topic. Now that I know that it is effecting her school work it is becoming more apparent that it is a bigger issue than I had thought...
Reading and googling there are a lot of signs pointing to ADHD. What does that mean though? Does anyone have any experience with ADHD? or have a child that was having some of these same issues and find a way to help them keep focused? I am just trying to get a little more information and figure maybe some of you moms might have a good place to start.
Thanks in advance,
