My 9 yr old eats twice as much as I do

Until just recently my daughter hardly ever finished her dinner and now she wants to eat constantly. She gets a snack after school and then dinner a couple of hours later. At dinner I started giving her adult portions so she wouldn't ask for dessert an hour later and again before bed. I tried to even it out where dinner is between 5:30 and 6, and dessert at 7:30. Even though Ive been giving her adult portions she still wants seconds at dinner. If there isn't enough leftover to satisfy her she will want dessert an hour after dinner. Basically she says shes hungry about ever hour or so. I don't think this is normal. Anyone else have this issue?

She could be going through a growth spurt. My son does this off and on. But I would take her to her doctor and discuss this to see if there is a problem.

I'd say it is a growth spurt. My 9 year old daughter is eating like a horse at the moment too. Just remember that generally by the age of 12 or 13, girls have done most of their growing (they don't grow in height much more once they get their periods), so she has lots of growing to do in 3-4 years.

What is she getting to eat during the day? You have only mentioned dinner time. If she isn't getting enough calories to keep up with her energy needs during the day, the chances are she is cramming it in the evening.

Im going to make an appt just to be on the safe side. Shes changed a lot of habits lately besides the eating and Im wondering if shes going through puberty. I am not ready for that! Haha
