Does anyone have any suggestions how to get my 9 yr. old to try new things without her Mom & Dad by her side, this started almost 1 yr. ago,she use to go on playdates, camps etc. now she won't go nowhere without us,we tired Karate classes but she won't even try,she watches won't participate, then comes home & shows us all the moves,I know she wants to try it,but she is just embarrased to get up in front of everyone. I feel like she is missing out on so m uch fun,any suggerstions?

Thank you Angela,The problem is their are no grandparents or cousins, but that would have been perfect,we never get babysitters because of the trust issue . I don't know what else to do.

Sounds like maybe she has become fearfull of something. Maybe something scared her once when she was not with you, and so now she is over compensating by not leaving you. You could tell her you have a Dr. appt. one day and say nothing more than that, then have her stay with someone close to you maybe for an afternoon...like a grandparent, or cousin? They could plan something special like a trip to the movies. It might be just what she needs. A slow introduction back into the world, to show her its ok when u are not there.
