Hi, I have an adult son who lives at home with me, I believe he has mental issues but also very lazy. He can't hold a job, he refuses to get help , he has no friends, stays in his room for hours on end. He is disrupting my household, my other children live with me and is causing alot of problems. I want to know how I can remove him from my home. He isn't really violent. He did punch a hole in the wall, but said it was an accident. He really needs professional help but he does not think he does. I have gone with him once to see someone and he told them he didn't know why he was there. I am at my wits end and do not know what to do. I have thrown him out a couple of times already but he keeps coming back and I let him in because I feel bad for him because I know he needs professional help. If he doesn't get the help he will never be able to function in society.

Shawn,

Your absolutely right, and I know this. It's just so hard for me as a mother. But tonight I will give him the ultimatum and see what happens. It's like talking to a wall when I talk to him.

Thank you for your comment

Tough love.

He either agrees to diagnosis and treatment, and can remain in your home, or he gets himself out, either into a shelter or apartment, and comes to terms with his adulthood on his own.

Every time you let him back in the home after having him removed it reinforces that you won't really ever kick him out and make him stand on his own two feet, so in his mind, why should he change?
