Hi. My daughter is 12 years old and will be turning 13 on April 21st. Lately, she's been having way too many issues at school. She told me she HATED school once, but I know teens and kids have bad days at school sometimes, then it started occurring to me that it isn't just "bad days". The school counsellor recommended to see counsellors outside of school that deals w/ teenage mental health issues, I find her crying in her bedroom(or somewhere else?) when I get home from work. She's fine when I wake her up in the morning for school, she doesn't beg to not be at school or cries, she just goes. She is on the senior band at school, plays the flute, and is on the badminton team.
We live in the lower mainland of B.C and most schools have a lot of Asians - we are Chinese Canadians ourselves but speak English, kids started calling my daughter "racist" at school and I don't know why! They started telling everyone that. Besides that, she has no friends from her K-7 school, but hangs out w/ kids outside of school. She'll be in a high school out of our neighborhood after summer. I don't know why these girls are so horrible with my Grade 7 daughter. They even tried to take her phone away - all kids who walk to school/from alone are REQUIRED to have one for safety reasons. Yes, it's not a phone that can only call home, emergencies, etc. You can go online w/ it, and I trust that she won't be 'sneaking off' with social media on it which she doesn't have. I grew up in Canada too and I don't remember kids being so horrible. It's a group of 12 girls ganging up on my child.
