My son turned 1 Aug 23 and WILL NOT WALK. He can, but he just chooses not to. He'll walk but then as soon as he realizes that he is, he'll drop. I understand kids do things on their own terms and you cannot make them do anything, but this is frustrating me soooo bad!!!! We work with him all the time and he will walk till the cows come home if he's holding onto something. He'll circle the living room 15 times a minute by holding onto furniture and the walls. He'll grab any toy that he can hold onto and push all over. I was wondering if any other moms have been through this.

Some children don't walk until 18 months and they're still in the "normal" range.

Of course you're not a crazy Mum, sometimes it helps to hear other's stories though just to put things into perspective. ;-)

My son walked later than my older child. I didn't stress though because he was doing everything he was supposed to, just a little bit later than the other child.

Yes, my son was the same, except it didn't really bother me because he's my first and that guideline says that it's fine not to walk before 18 months. Other people's remarks were a little annoying, but I chose to believe the 18-month thing. He's just a cautious kid, he didn't want to fall. He was able to walk at 15 months but would rather crawl. Finally at 17 months he figured out that he could go faster and carry more when walking, so he did that instead. And he was very steady right away, I think because he was older. You know when a 10 month old walks, it always looks so precarious and they fall over a lot. When my son started walking, he could go over pretty rough terrain and not fall at all. (I didn't walk him holding both his hands because I saw my niece's parents wearing themselves out doing that, so I didn't even start. He did really enjoy it when his grandparents did it, though.)

He is starting to take more steps on his own in the last couple days. I was just wondering if many other moms have experienced the same things. I know a couple people with babies his age and a few months younger and they are walking. I know kids do things on their own time and i'm fine with that. I just want to clear up that i'm not mad or irritated with him about it, it is just frustrating is all. I don't want anyone to think i'm being a crazy mom or anything. My first son took off walking at 1 pretty much right on the dot and my younger one has done most everything pretty much at the same age as my first one did things. So i guess i was just expecting him to walk at the same time as my older one. ;-)

My son was 16 months. You know he can walk so stop letting it get to you, he'll soon figure out it is within his best interest to walk and will just get on with it. :-)
