Hello moms,

I am new to the community. I am searching for some moms who possibly have been in my shoes. My almost 4 year old son speaks ok he says a few words but not putting 2 words together. He still sometimes speaks baby talk as well. He is daycare as I thought that would help but no so much. He has been going to speech therapy for a few months and very little progress I have seen.
I am worried he will not be ready at age 5 for school. He understand what you are saying and a very independent child.

has anyone seen this long of a speech delay occur?

So at 3, you should have been directed to contact your local public school. They would have continued services for your son. It is unfortunate that you have been driving so far for therapy and that you were not advised to call the school. So get restarted and call the Dept of Special Ed for the district your child would go to school in if he were in school. They will help you get the services started.

He has therapy since 21/2 but the therapist was very bad she would miss days then come with her daughter and this was from the early intervention then at 3 he had to end and we searched for a speech therapist as the place they wanted to send him was far and only gave him 2 hours a day of therapy so we found an outside place to do it.

If he's in speech therapy... they would be the ones to answer your questions about the situation. A few months w/ that big of a delay is not very long to expect great results. It probably would have been better for him to have been in speech therapy earlier, but there is no going back in time.

Not really but usually at 3 Early Intervention services end and the school district takes over. In the school district I work in, we do a new evaluation to create the IEP, to be sure the child is getting the services he needs..

He has had an early education evaluation but not at the local school. His hearing was good I had that tested twice.

Is the school eval differ from the early intervention eval?

My son had a speech delay and had a speech impediment well into first grade. If you have had his hearing tested and he gets speech therapy, then you may need to be patient. At 2 my son took a full year to close the gap in his speech. Has he had a full evaluation by the Special Ed department of your local public school?
