Hi, I am new and at the end of my rope. My 8 yo son has high functioning Autisim. He flips out, stomps his feet, cries, acts totally out of control-- he does this whenever we go places he WANTS to go to! The movies, sesame place, disney world, family and friends houses, out to dinner-- anyplace we go that would make him happy and that he asks to go to!

He is usually fine once we get there and I know he really wants to go but the minute I say it's time to go let's get in the car he freaks out! I actually have worked in an extra 30 minutes to our plans because he needs to get this tantrum out of the way.

Any help? It's not fair to my other children and he does it every time. Sometimes it's so bad we can't even stay once we get to the front of the venue.

Advice? Thank you for any. I'm at a total loss at this point.

Thank you for your reply. He goes to school full day and I work. It's just so frustrating becuse whenever we do something he "seems" to look forward to-- he freaks out right before we go. It's like he doesnt know how to act happy right away.

((sigh)) I dunno how to explain it. So stressful.

may be he needs a change in environment/ atmosphere around new people new places try to put him to a school where he can be away from you for sometime and learn to be independent. otherwise, if you think he is attached to you, just shower lots of affection make other kids also play with him he should feel unity in your own family get things in the house he likes the most build different look play area or nice things he likes in home.
