He has been on amoxicillin for 4 days for an ear infection. I believe this is the culprit. He has never had diaper rash before now and is 8 months old. When I apply Desitin he screams as if it burns his bottom. Does anyone have any home remedies to help sooth and treat a raw hiney?

When mine got diaper rash, he also screamed when I put desitin on his bottom. It wasnt the best feeling but I knew I had to do it, and it did work. Also if you can let his go without a diaper, having it air out really really helps, there might be some accidents but put him in a area so clean up is easier. And bath water, make sure its not that warm, because it can hurt their little bottoms, I learned that the hard way, having to lower the temp so he could be comfortable
Once my son had to take an antibiotic and it caused him to have a yeast infection, it was mainly his penis though being very red and tender, we had to get some cream from the dr to treat it. You probably dont have to worry about that but def something to watch out for.

Hope his rash goes away soon!

I havent tried the baby gold bond stuff before, sure sounds like something worth trying.

With the yeast infection, it was just that his penis was bright red, he didnt have a diaper rash at the time either, and he didnt have any redness other than the front, maybe at the base but wasnt anywhere else. But I do assume that it could happen all over as well. And it was a lot more tender than a regular rash, as in he wasnt peeing as much and he screamed bloody murder when we tried to change him. He had it only that once thankfully, but we knew something was up, just one of those things you know something else has to be going on especially being directly on it

We stopped with Desitin, and started using Baby Gold Bond products. Much easier on the bum, and LO wasn't in pain as much.

Thanks Stacy! I didn't even think about his bath water temperature making it burn more. What should I look for if he gets a yeast infection? Will it be white? Or does it look like diaper rash?
