My baby HATES the car

I have a 3 mo. old who absolutely hates the car. I can't go anywhere without him balling the whole time to the point of him being soaked in sweat. I've checked the straps, not over/under dressed him, sat in the back with him, put toys in front of him, played music...u name it I've tried it. Has anyone else had this problem and hopefully lived to laugh about it later? I don't want to become a hermit here but I can't stand making him cry for the whole trip anywhere. Help!

One of our kids hated the car when they were in a rear facing infant seat (starting around 2 months), but was okay once we switched to a rear facing convertible seat. I've talked to other parents as well who found that their baby was better in the car once they moved them into a convertible seat - which is generally higher up and sits them more upright.

When we were having issues though we seriously limited the use of the car, but it wasn't a huge problem for us since we could walk or take the bus a lot of places.
