My daughter is 14 and was diagnosed at 12 and I too have schizophrenia. Props to all you mothers and children out there struggling it's hard and sometimes I just want to give up but I know I can't. The road to freedom is never easy I just hope there is a cure soon enough!

I have a daughter with schizoaffective disorder, she is 11 years old and has tried many meds only to rule them out...she is down to a limited number of meds to try. She is a sweet heart but her head has the voices of her biomom and stepdad - abusers..now she is also having visual hallucinations of her stepdad abuser. I feel like she is in a position where she has gone from a child who had the possiblity for a good quality of life to now an 11 year old (with sever weight issues) who is more uncontrolable in the few instances when things become too dificult for her and I feel like her future looks very dim now...her school is less than encouraging....the hospital that has worked with her meds seems to have become more about behavior than help ( she has wonderful behavior when her head is not full of outside stuff) Help...

I just saw a special on 20/20 about child with schizophrenia. It was very informative and shocking to me. I didnt realize children can have schizophrenia or never really thought about it. I dont know much about the disorder...but I commend you for being a strong women. It must be difficult at times as it is hard just being a mommy.
