I am so very upset. I called school last week to see what teacher my child had for this year only to have them tell me that my son is not scheduled to go to that school this year. I was shocked as my son has been in this school for 2 years prior to this year. The school said that they sent out a letter with papers i needed to fill out to verify proof of residency. My family and i live with our Uncle whom owns his home so we have to fill out a shared domicile report to keep our kids in school. I did not realize that we had to do this every single year. Anyway i never recieved the letter that the school claims to have sent out and neither did approximatly 100 other parents either. I asked the school why there was never a second letter or a phone call to ask why the child was not registered in any schools for the upcoming year. I also told them that the postal service is not without fault, that every letter mailed does not always make it to the destination. This is why they offer insurance on all parcels and letters and they offer a written confirmation by signature upon reciept of a letter or parcel. I mean when we miss a doctors appointment we recieve a letter saying we missed it and if we would like to reschedule. I just don't understand why that if we had until June 30th this year to return said papers then when so many parents never showed by the deadline why didn't the school look in to this and send a second letter saying we missed the deadline. Now i had to wait for them to mail me a package of papers, have everything filled out and notarized and now we sit and wait until next Thursday to see the lady so we can show our completed papers to get our kids back in to school. I am worried cause my son has developmental delay so he is already struggling to keep up. Now he will be 2 weeks behind and i know it is going to make it very hard for him to catch up. I am one very frustrated Mom and i think this is so so wrong on the board of educations behalf.

I would write a loooong letter to the board. This is unacceptable. Your child will be 2 weeks behind through no fault of your own. You need to take action with the board directly.

I am going to see to it that someone listens to me on this subject. No child should have to start school 2 weeks late because the parent never recieved a letter from the school. Main thing that heats me up is the school knew back in June 30th, 2 months ago that the childs papers were not completed and that the child was not set up to enter any school for this year. Why wouldn't that raise a red flag is beyond me especially considering it was approximately 100 kids not registered this year in our small local area.

I am on the board at my daughters school and we take things like this very seriously.

Thank you Katherine, i was really not sure what to do or where to start. I also think the board would be a great place to start. I did forward this story to a local TV station but apparently childrens educations and lack of due to the schools fault is not news :(
