I am a single Mom (no Dad in the picture) with a 14 yr old girl who has ADHD. She went away to camp for the first time this past summer, when she was 13 yrs old. She went for 4 weeks. I did not send a huge amount of things with her because we do not have that much compared to some of the other families. We got a scolarship. But it is a very well respected camp. She went for 4 weeks. While she was away, she told me she wasn't eating a lot (didn't like the food). I found out later she was going to the "Canteen" a lot to buy candy, and ended up getting sick from candy and they gave her Miralax without consulting me. I believe she had just had too much candy. She told me later that she felt very lonely, and the experience was hard, even though she had friends there she loves. On returning, I later realized she was stealing money from my wallet to by make-up, hair curlers and Victoria's Secret padded bras....
When I set a consequence or take away her phone, she uses my I-pad. She has figured out many of the codes on the devices, and if I hide something she will usually find it..... She seems not to be motivated by incentives, unless they are immediate. So my primary question is: Does anyone know of any research or articles about kids with ADHD returning from sleep-away Camp with a hording problem, lying, stealing.....?? or Is is just the age which makes her turn into a scarey monster....
