My 5 month old daughter has had diarrhea for over a week. what could be causing this? She is not dehydrated, seems happy but she has diarrhea 7-8 times a day. We are feeding her soy based formula because she is lactose intorlance. Does anyone out there have any ideas what could be causing this? The only things he's ever eaten are formula, breast milk, rice cereal (3~4 times) and sweet potatoes(twice, not until after this started). No allergies or illnesses of any kind run in our family.

Well, sometimes when they have diarrhea in the beginning it can flush out all of the good bacteria in their digestive tracts and so then the diarrhea continues not because they are ill, but because the balance is off. Call your doc, but I will say that once when this happened with my daughter, I gave her some stuff called Culturelle and it helped her restore balance and get back to normal.

it's been another week and still no sign of being cured. what happened after 4 months with your baby? Will it stop by him/herself? Thanks.

Same thing happened to my daughter. She actually was born preemie and had a nurse coming every week to monitor her weight and she was losing weight as well. They were real tiny babies, .like 4-5 months old when we gave them the vitamin water. I just put the vitamin water in their bottle and they drank it, it helped really quick.

How old your kids were when you got them vitamin water? How much you fed them with the water? We are afraid the diarrhea will last very long time for our daughter and she starts to lose weight. Thanks a lot!!!!

My two youngest had this problem as well, this may sound out of the box but I swear it worked for my kids. Get them vitamin water. It's usually sold at about any gas station, or grocery store. Don't matter the flavor. It worked miracles on my kids!

Try a probiotic supplement in her formula. My doctor suggests culterelle. It can be found just about anywhere. My son did this a few times. The doctor said as long as he continues eating not to worry.

My daughter was a little older but she started doing this and it lasted for 4 months! We went back and forth to texas childrens hospital and they did test after test and couldn't find anything wrong. They also changed her diet alot, they ended up saying they thought it was a toddler form of irritable bowl syndrome (IBS). I'm not sure if this will help but maybe you can ask her doctor about it.
