My 13 year old daughter has hallucinations of people coming to get her. She's seen other things also like rats. She gets really distressed. She's been diagnosed as anxiety but I'm not convinced. Can anybody help?

Thank you so much for your support. She sees different people with knives. Last week while in school she visualized her brother getting stabbed. She's seen rats in school and at home. She smelt disgusting smells too. One day she said a man had grabbed her arm and she was convinced it was bruised.

Does your daughter have any other issues? I ask because my daughter is 13 as well and has severe inattentive ADD, dyscalculia and anxiety. She has not had hallucinations but she does have the same fear of people coming to get her, for example she was distressed by the pictures of the violence in Ferguson, Missouri and we live in Arizona! Our psychiatrist who manages my daughter's ADD meds, said that some kids are prone to these fears especially at the age where they begin to develop more independence. However, I would ask your daughter if anything has triggered it like the news, something she heard at school etc.. But if she cannot pinpoint it I would definitely start with your family's pediatrician. My heart goes out to you and I know the worry you must feel but take everything one step at a time.Good luck!
