My daughter is 6 years old and she just said she wants make up from Santa this year. Do you think this is too young for makeup? Not for everyday use btw.

Hmmm....depends on what she is specifically talking about. You can get her flavored chapsticks, nail polish, cute hair clips, headbands, and dress up cloths. That might be satisfying enough.

Yes. Other than lip gloss, though. I wasn't allowed to wear make up ANYWHERE until I was 10 (which is still too young IMO). Just have to be careful about it. She may be expecting to be able to wear it out in public eventually. Get her a lip gloss kit (has like several colors/flavors bunched together) and some other stuff, like soaps and lotions.

If she is looking for face powder, blush, lipstick, mascara, liner, the real stuff...yeah she is to young for that IMO. But you can even throw some glitter in the mix for dress up play. That is always fun.

I think if they are just playing and not going out side I dont see a problem with it. My daughter is 1 and a half and occasionally when i am getting ready for work i will put eye shadow on her. It is so light you have to really look at her to notice and usually pink or silver.

Thanks. Really helpful. I think I can get her a nail polish kit for kids and maybe a little make up. Cute lip gloss is a great idea. She keep stealing my lipstick to put in her "handbag". She still a kid though call high heels "Clippety Clops". Thanks for the great ideas.

You can get kiddie play make up like blush and lipstick colours and stuff in colourful compacts (probably from a toy shop). I had it when I was a kid. I think it's cute.

I still only do nail polish and lip gloss for my girls who are almost 10. Not sure at what age I will do more since we aren't there yet. ;)

I think if it is just play make up, for playing dress up at home, there is no harm in it. Some days my daughter (who is 6) looks like a drag queen the way she makes up her face with her play Barbie make up. As long as it is washed off before we go out, I really don't care. Some days, when I go out and am doing my make up, she will ask for some, and as long as she isn't leaving the house I will allow her to have a little bit on, just for fun.

However, if your daughter is wanting REAL make up for using to wear out, then I'd say no, she is way too young for this.

I personally wouldnt, but I have a rule no make up till you can buy it with your own money. that is just the way it is for us.

if you are comfortable with it then go with it.

I agree with Marina. If it is something she will just be playing around with in the house once in a while...not a big deal, but she is definitely too young to go out with it on IMO.
