I have a 12 year old daughter with cerebal palsy, it only effects her right arm & leg along with her speech... Her father & I had her fully potty trained at the age of 4 years... As soon as she started kindergarden everything went sour, she was only wetting herself at night for the longest time.. Then it turned into her also wetting herself during the day as well, no matter what she was doing playing with toys even to her sitting there eating she would wet her pants.. We thought this way the worse of it & we were wrong... She is also soiling herself during the day... We have tried everything timeout, no toys, no going outside to play, talking to her & NOTHING is working... It's like she doesn't care... For example her father & I had her in time out ( she knows she's allowed to get up to go to the bathroom ) she sat there peeing & soilded herself... We even tried to make her feel bad because we want to get her a swing set this year & her dad told her if you don't stop going to the bathroom in your pants we're not buying you a swing set & she doesn't care!!! We're both at our wits end, even her doc & specalist don't know what to do with her!!! HELP!!!

With the token system just remember; kids are smart and what they will do for one token, a week late they want two. Once she starts upping the ante, you have to stop with external motivation. Praise and positive enforcement will help the most. Good luck!

Hi Sara, yes she attends school full time... She doesn't have a behavioral therapist... She has an OT,PT, & speech therapist... I have apts with her reg doc & her specialists coming up soon & I'm going to have them test her for all types of things that might be causing tis issue... I'm hoping we can find answers & solve the problem for her... She has started her period yet, thank goodness... I want to hopefully get the problem dissolved b4 it happens... She's a very happy little girl, I asked her all the time how she feels & she tells me she's happy lol which to me hearing her talk is cute :) I am going to give your idea with the tokens & rewarding her a try... Fingers crossed, thank you so much for your advise :)

Does she attend school, and does she have a behavioral therapist? I suppose first you need to rule out a medical issue. Is it possible she can't help it? Like she has a sensory issue and is not interpreting the signal to go? If all is well medically, then a behavioral therapist make be able to help devise a technique to motivate her. If consequences are not working, maybe some external motivation may get the ball rolling? If you go all day with no wetting or soiling you get a token, 3 tokens earns you (whatever she loves) once you get a routine established you can stop the rewarding.
Another thought that just popped in my head is could she be depressed? If she is truly apathetic about this, and she used to care. Has she started her period yet? If yes maybe that is frightening her? I wish I was more helpful.
