If you can't return it and it is a financial issue, ask around to your friends. I actually posted on Facebook looking for a spare seat and got one the next day. That way you know the seat is safe, but won't have the added expense of a third seat. I know that carseats are alot of money, but it is soooooo important. Unfortunately our children might meet the weight and height requirements, but that doesn't mean it is the right fit for the age and their physical development. Obviously we get in our cars everyday expecting to not get in an accident, but the reality is that we just never know and it just isn't worth it. I have done extensive research on child seats and the personal stories that I have come across are horrifying. The 2 year recommendation is in place for a reason, please follo it. Also, lease don't feel bad for not knowing in advance, as I is a mistake that many of us have made as parents. The important thing is that you found out BEFORE there was a potential problem! :-) best of luck! Let us now how you make out!

Try to return that seat and buy a different one. There are many car seats available that rear face to 35 or 40 pounds. Using one of them is in the best interest of your child... and you can find a fairly inexpensive one. When I bought my son's about 3.5 years ago the seat I got was almost $200. I saw the same one the other day for only $100. He rear faced til 3.25 and he was about 32 pounds when I switched him.
