She is 17 months old and two weeks ago got her first real illness...virus. she was vomiting with diarrhea for two days. Since then, at least once per day when she poops, its a mushy mess! She is also cutting her "fangs" if u will....and drooling a lot. So I don't know if she is still sick or just teething. The BRAT diet isn't really helping but I'm tired of changing so many mushy diapers at once.

Kathy, I think you mean, ointment...appointment gave me quite a chuckle though. Stupid, spell check?

Teething can certainly loosen up the bowels. That is thanks to all that extra drool. Oh the fun of being a Mom! Best advice is to keep the butt appointment near, have extra wipes on hand, diapers and a change of clothes at the ready. Also try some extra bananas in the diet-they have a tendency to bind things up a bit. Good luck! Remember-eventually those teeth will all get through or she will get potty trained first!

I would say it's most likely the teething causing her to have loose stool here and there. Try giving her foods that help bind, like cheese.

Sorry, to be more specific: the doctor said she prob had a stomach virus...that was 2 weeks ago and I'm sure that has tapered off...but when she does have a BM, its sometimes watery or mushy. It hasn't been constant until today but I just realized it might be because I started giving her yogurt again yesterday and the good bacteria could be cleaning house...on top of her teething.

You should always put a call to the doctor if she has been doing this for 2 days. She could easily get dehydrated even though you believe it's teething. You don't want her to go that way any longer. Most every Doctor I have dealt with in the past says those symptoms have nothing to do with teething. I personally disagree after over 25 years working directly with babies. Those doctors have not changed enough diapers.LOL! You can try crackers, dry toast for the stomach & yogurt for diarrhea. If she still can not keep any thing down or still having watery diapers. I would really seek medical treatment. Small children become dehydrated quickly. So please after trying these things & they don't work. Seek medical treatment. Hope she feels better soon. God Bless Remembering teething is going to last longer than the symptoms she is having. You can only treat the symptoms & let the teething take its course. Good Luck

I'm sorry that your daughter isn't feeling well. You wrote that once a day she has a mushy diaper; I'm wondering if she has more solid diapers at other points during the day? If she does, then that probably means everything is fine; however, if everything is extremely runny and you haven't taken her to the doctor yet, it might be something to consider. Also, my son gets loose stools when he's teething (the doctor explained it as they swallow a lot of drool and the extra fluid loosens things up), so that may be all that's going on. In that case, the BRAT diet won't help, and it's an unfortunate phenomenon that will hopefully go away soon. Good luck!
