I am a new mother of an eight month old son, who does not sleep throughout the night. He is teething,so I can understand him waking up maybe once or twice. But he is waking up about five-six times a night! When he wakes up, the only thing that will put him back to sleep is a bottle, sometimes if I am lucky, I can get awake with patting his back. I tried the "cry it out" method, but all he did was cry for about two hours for an entire month! I could use to tips or advice before I just stop sleeping all together. Thank you! :)

If it makes you feel any better... my youngest only slept through a handful of random times until he was 2. He nursed 1-5 times/night until that point.

My best friend's mom tells of how none of her kids slept through the night until they were 5. She had 3 kids all 5 years apart.... Yep, poor woman didn't sleep for 15 years! lol

He won't be like this forever. I promise. It took 2 years for my youngest to sleep through the night, but it's been almost 3 years now and he only wakes if he has a bad dream (rare), he's sick (rarer), or he needs to pee (rarest).

It feel good knowing that I am not the only one. Thank you so much. There is a light at the end of the tunnel! And yes that poor woman, God bless her!

Honestly that's all I needed to hear. Lol I thought I was doing something very wrong! I give him teething medication, and he is not into his binky anymore. He slept all night when he was between 1-4 months but then the teething started but as long as I know this is just a phase, I can saddle up, down some coffee and ride it out! Thank you so so much :))

Mary, don't take this as discouraging, but...some kiddos don't sleep thru until they're older than 12 months, and some later than that.

Is this a new behaviour that started with the teething? Do you use teething easers? To be quite honest, mine are old enough now that I don't remember what I used, except that the anbesol type of things really freaked them out (they couldn't understand why they all of a sudden couldn't feel anything). Mine really liked the teething rings, or even a cold washcloth that they could chew.

If it's just escalated with the teething, but he was waking 2-3 times on a normal night anyway, I'd say he's not quite ready to sleep through yet, and that will come with time.

I got lucky. Mine were both good sleepers, and slept thru early on. BUT, I had a time with both of them when they hit around 2 years old...they started waking in the middle of the night again, and I (in my exhaustion, basically) would plug in a disney movie, pull out the futon, and let them watch till they fell back asleep while I dozed beside them. Oh boy did I catch hell from their dad for that...he didn't realize what was going on, or that it was nightly. The one night that I was too physically ill to get up with the youngest, I got out of bed and headed for that tape, and hubby was right behind me. He stopped the tape, picked up the boy, said "your mother does not need to be wakened every night just because you want a movie. Wait until it's your turn. The sun has to be up" He put kiddo back to bed, and I was never awakened in the middle of the night again (except for the normal nightmares, monsters, and bad tummies, that is)

I know you're at your wit's end now, but this too shall pass. Check with your local pharmacy for teething support. I know there's more out there now than there was 16 years ago!
