Bonita, have you had a baby in the last year? Or are you going through "the big change"? Hormones have a huge impact in your hair. Ther "average human looses approxomitly 100hairs a day, is you have thicker hair you tend to loose more. Are you seeing patches on your scalp where the hair is coming out? If so deffinatly see a doctor. But hair sheds seasonally, hormonally and from certain products and medications. Have you changed to a new shampoo or conditioner? Conditioner is ment to be used at the ends of your hair if it's applied to liberally at the scalp and you massage or rub it in the oils from your scalp andthe conditioning agents can actually penetrate into the hair follicle making the bulb of the hair over lubricated and come out. There's so many possibilities, do you put your hair up slot? It could also just be breakage. But if you aren't seeing bald spots I'd not worry so much.
I've been doing hair for 10'years and loosing hair is very common. If it bothers you toooo much try a shampoo line made for thinning hair such as nioxin, redkin also has one as well.

Have you started any new medications recently, or experienced any major stressors?
There is also an autoimmune condition called alopecia areata, where your immune system mistakenly attacks your hair follicles. The good news is that it's treatable, and in the vast majority of cases, the hair grows back.
But you really won't know what's causing this until your appointment. I'm not a doctor, nor do I even play one on TV. Good luck, though, and I hope this is just temporary!
