My husband won't allow me to cook

I was a single mom for 6 years before I married my husband of 8 months now, he is highly critic of cooking styles from where I come from and would never let me into the kitchen, not even to slice veggies and clean up after his cooking. I appreciated it at first but now feel that I've totally lost my confidence as a mum, when we have to bring a cooked dish to a party, I just can't do it.. I loved cooking before he moved in and was always reading recipe books, trying new ideas and showing off my dishes but now I can't do it, I tried cooking twice but was so nervous, my dishes didn't come out well. How do I let him know of my feelings. I'm also tired of his cooking but can't tell him.

Maybe you can let him know that you appreciate his efforts, but you would really like to take turns because you want to treat HIM as great as he's been treating you. Though w/ him not 'letting' you in the kitchen I'm not sure how that approach will work.

Thanks Dove for pointing that out, I'm thinking of the right words to tell him without hurting his feelings because he is so proud of his cooking and he might be thinking he is doing me a great favor and I'm just being unappreciative. I'll find the right time to tell him.

If you can't communicate w/ your husband your marriage is likely doomed to fail. That's just a fact. Communication is THE most important element in marriage (in addition to commitment).

You are just going to have to tell him that you love cooking and if he loves you he would not have a problem w/ you cooking whenEVER you want to. Period.

I would just walk into the kitchen while he's at work or out, whip something up that you are confident in (without the pressure of him hanging out behind you) and tell him you've already made dinner. If cooking is something you enjoy, don't let him squash it. For Me, on the other hand, I hate cooking! So this sounds like my dream guy haha
