I'm going to try not to ramble.

My Husbands ex-wife (lets call her Rachel) is suing for and extension on alimony.

When they got a divorce, 6 years ago, he agreed to pay alimony for 5 years (extremely generous given the situation). Alimony ended this January and although we are financially comfortable it is a still a relief, I won't disclose how much we have been paying but its a fair amount!!

We just got a call from our lawyer today saying Rachel is claiming she needs more money, her reasoning is apparently that my husband discouraged her going to school and that's why she can't get a new job! Which is untrue.

So questions,

1. Is this legal or fair? I seriously didn't think this was possible!
2. Why won't she leave us alone?????? 6 years later and she still is keeping me up all night with stress!

I would suggest that this is something that your lawyer can guide you best about. It personally doesn't make a ton of sense to me because even if he did discourage her when they were married (I'm not saying he did), then she has had 6 years since the divorce to go back to school and do so herself. I would suspect that she just doesn't want to lose the "income."
