My kid is 19, he doesn't know what he wants to do, he wants to find/know who he is

My son finished high school, didn't enroll to college in time, now he is working but I ask him about school. He still doesn't know what, where or how to start or if he wants to go to school. He wants to travel to know the World and know himself. I honestly don't know how to help or do. Not sure if he wants my help either.

Don't force him into continuing education unless he is sure he's ready and which direction he wants to go. Otherwise, it's a waste of time and money.

This is not a big deal. Every kid goes through this stage, and we all survive. My 19 yo "floated" for a year, and then started getting his ducks in a row for an education in teaching. He has spent the past 8 months getting a stockpile saved for his tuition. He'll start school in August, and finish by 2019, at which time he'll be an elementary & middle school level german instructor.

I didn't stress, I didn't push, I let him investigate, and evolve into his adult self.

Thanks Jody, I know I have to let him live his life, and I want him to travel and know the world, it's the way he wants to do it, he just wants to take off, with no car, no money and not a definite destination either. He won't take a cell phone with him. It's to much uncertainty and danger out there at least that's the way I see it. I want to be able to know where he is and at least know that he has a roof on his head and a meal everyday.

Why is this a problem for you? I can't see anything wrong if he wants to travel the world and get to know himself. As long as he's paying for it, I think you just let him go. College isn't for everyone, and there is no reason he can't go back later if that's what he decides he wants to do. In the meantime, just let him live his life as he chooses.
