I met some people at a restaurant with a child 1 day older than my son who is 16 months and he was not walking and not sitting on his own either, I think every child develops on their own but they said they held him all the time too and the siblings would carry him everywhere, I'd just spend more time rolling around the floor with him and not always carrying him on your hip too much. teething is a reason he may cry and be fussy because it hurts.

Hi Rajula

Teething can be very disruptive indeed, but has nothing to do with walking, standing up or sitting. Our eldest son was 10 or 11 months when he started walking and the youngest was 13 months. Both of them were sitting on their own long before then.

My very serious suggestion to you is to consult your dr immediately. The walking or standing is not so much a problem as sitting on his own. Perhaps occupational therapy could be done if the problem is not too serious.

Good luck!

Hi Rajula

I know this is your very old post but currently I am having the same issue as you. How's your son now and when did he start doing these things and did he have any special treatment? Thanks

Every child develops at different rates and speeds...maybe a visit to the dr will ease your mind.  Does your babe have lots of time on the floor to develop strength?  Does your babe have tummy time?

you shold take your son to his doctor something is wrong if he can't sit up yet at his age he should at least be sitting and crawling

Quoting Danielle: Try & be a bit more tactful, mothers should stick together, not brag at how early their kid has done something, i suggest next time b4 u give advice, do it with good intentions & tact for the receiver (not to make yourself feel like a better mother) Let's remember motherhood is a privellege,It's not a competition.

My daughter was walking at 10 months of age, on her own.
She was also crawling and sitting by herself soon after she was 6 months.
At one (12 months) year of age she could sit by herself, and feed herself without needing to use a bib.
I have been told by medical professionals that teething is, just that, teething - no fever, no rash, no odd changes in bowel movements, etc.
If I were you I would take my child to a child health nurse or family doctor as soon as possible!

Don't think teething has anything to do with it. My son has just turned 5, everytime he laughs (hysterically giggling) he still gets reflux. Take him to your GP, gripe water may also relieve this, it's available at pharmacies/chemists.

hey all children do things at different stages, at what age did your other children sit and stand on their own. I would spend lots of time with him on the floor and not have him in a sitting postion if he can't get there himself for playing. does he crawl, if yes he will do the other things in his own time. it has nothing to do with teething.

Hi! I don't know what advice to give you, but i can tell you that it is not because of the teething. My boy is 8 months old, and he's also got 6 teeth already. And he sits up by himself, and can stand if he's holding on to something

Ok. all kids develop at different ages and late development is NOT something bad.Teething is NEVER the reason Yet saying that at 1 if your child is not even sitting up you should consult your doctor.  Its very important you do this. But don't do so being scared, as i said before some children develop later. But consulting your doctor will take away any fears, as well as helping you if there is a problem(God forbid). Good luck

I would love 2 hear how your boy goes :-)

I am no expert but Im sure thats not it. Some babies take a bit longer to walk..But most of them sit at the age of 1year,maybe you should take him\her to a pedeatrtion?
