My son is seven months old and screams for fun it seems.... He yells for a diaper or food. But I know his cries and what they mean by now. He will scream and when you look at him he smiles? It was cute at first but now i need help...

Kids are smarter than we give them credit for. I would say he's seen it work for your sisters kids and thought he'd give it a go.

I would still talk to him in a calm voice so he knows you are there even pick him up if he is realy worked up. Just don't make eye contact or smile at him untill he shows some signs of calming down.

I know it is hard, but as long as you know he is safe and doesn't need anything like a nappy change, just ignore it. As soon as he calms even for a second give him the attention that he wants.

He will soon learn that screaming doesn't get him what he wants.

At the same time remember that he is still young and crying is the main way to comunicate with you so always make sure he is only demanding attention and not in need of something.

Good luck.

thanks for responding!! I know children learn from playing copy cat, and my sisters kids scream like that too. Maybe he is picking it up? I will try to talk to him in a soothing quiet tone. should I wait until he has calmed down before talking to him? I know that infants do not grasp the consept of punishment. So its out of the question
