He is adhd and he is a wiz at math but can't read at all . He's not interested and I'm afraid of what school will say about this.

Why is he just stating his first year? I would definitely get him a tutor and as much help over the summer as possible or else he is going to really struggle.

So you find it difficult to get him to sit down and focus so you decide to send him to a public school classroom instead? You DO understand that he will likely have the same issues there? And it will NOT be the teacher's fault?

Now, having said that, you need to be able to sit and read with him. It is not only the school's job to teach him to read, it is also your job to read with him on an ongoing basis. If he cannot read (even a little bit) and you have been homeschooling him, you really have not been doing your job. End of story.

He was doing the k12 online program, but he is really hard to set down and to get his attention and focus.
