I just found out today by my cousin that my sister bought a car seat for my nephew. Its for children 3 years and up. Her son turns 1 on the 26th. I informed her that he isn't supposed to be facing forward til he is 2 and that the car seat she got him is for older children who are 50 to 100 pounds. IT SAYS SO RIGHT ON THE BOX!!!! HELLO?! She told me that it's not the law to have them facing backwards til they are 2 and that it is just recommended. She also said that the carseat was fine and the babies dr told her that its ok as long as he is strapt into the seat correctly. Idk about any1 else but that just doesn't sound right. It kind of makes me mad and makes me think that she isn't really thinking about the safety of my nephew.

Get her to watch this YouTube clip....

This is showing seats appropriate to the age of a child, I'm sure a seat that is the wrong size would have worse consequences.

There is some very useful info on this website http://rearfacing.co.uk/facts.php

the seat is 1 that can have the back part taken off to make it a booster seat.

Well even if you take out the whole forward facing factor, the car seat is clearly not for your nephew's weight.

If it's for children who are 50 to 100 lbs, and 3 years and up, then that sounds like a booster seat, not a car seat. My guess is that she was NOT honest with her doctor.

Can you find out exactly what kind of carseat it is? Do you remember? If you look it up, and it is indeed a booster seat, then remind her that it's for children 3 years and up. If she still won't budge, I would perhaps call the police, and ask them what you should do.

Well legally she can front face him at 1 although it is strongly recommended to rear face till 3 with at least a minimum of 2yrs.

She may have gotten a car seat with a 5pt harness that will allow her to front face him at an earlier weight?? The only way the carseat would be for 50lbs and up would be if it was a booster seat and that doesn't sound like that is what she bought. So maybe find out the exact seat she bought and do the research on it to find out??

I could understand if her kid was actually 50 pounds and she got this seat and the kid was nearly 3 but at nearly 1 there's no way a kid would be 50 pounds. This is totally illegal! If she won't listen to you I'd call the police about it.

Oh boy. That is so dangerous! I had my daughter in a 5 point until she was 5.5 and my younger rear facing until 2.5.

She is not thinking about his safety and if she were to get pulled over they could easily take her son for neglect. His neck isn't strong enough yet to be front facing and there is a REASON there are weight limits on car seats!

Somehow you need to make her see the light.
