Like Shawnn said,it depends on where you live and when a person is considered a minor. Btw i met my husband when i was 18,we started dating when i was 19 and he was 36.When i went to school a 14(!!)yr old was dating a 21 yr old..the mother never laid charges or anything..this girl is now 22 and still together with him. I know that because the girl went to class with my sister. My parents were never angry or made any comments about my hubby and i large age gap.

Yes, Serene, 16 is a minor, but if the age of consent in her area is 16 or lower, then this is not an issue.

I have dated up to 23 years older BUT I was an adult and had been married 12 years prior to divorce so when I became single age was not a major factor, lets face it once you have kids age is just a number we are all in the rat race of life!

I was on my own and living with my now ex husband by the time I was 17 and I was 16 when we met he was 21 almost 22 fortunately my mom did not mind the age difference and allowed me to make my way I dont regret marrying him young but it is all about maturity as well. I was supporting myself at the age of 15 so I was living as an adult. in most states 17 yrs of age is the legal consent if this is so in yours then it is a felony for a 21 to date a 16 yr old. but talk it over with the parents and let them know what is going on it is their call.

Shawnn you was 18 when you met your husband. There is a big difference between 18 and 16. 16 is a minor and 18 is an adult...this is a minor.

Actually, a 5 year age gap is way more common than you think, Serene, and with one party being 16, it may NOT be a big deal, depending on age of consent.

I met my husband (25 years now) when I was 18 and he was 23. Same age difference.

Your parents should call the police and report it, considering that he lied about his age. He can keep lying about anything else and then your sister will end up pregnant at the age of 16. What is she doing with a 21 year old anyways? Thats crazy!! Unacceptable!!!

Ok, so it depends on the age of consent in your state, and your parents would have to pursue statutory charges if the age of consent is over 16.

If the age of consent is 16 or lower (in some states it is lower), then your sister and her boyfriend aren't violating any laws, and you need to back off. If you are concerned that its an abusive relationship, please bring those concerns to your parents.

Legally its something that your parents need to take care of and they need to check the age of consent in your state. Some states it is 16.
