Oh, one other thing...the 3rd day after surgery is usually when they have a "down" day, as the last of the anesthetic wears out of their system. It's generally a very emotional day for the patient, and a trying day for mom...but if you're prepared, have the meds handy, etc, then you'll be just fine.

Best of luck with your little one. Surgery is scary for moms, no matter how old their baby is!

Talk to the anesthesiologist, and have them tell you their procedures. Generally, by 6, there aren't as many concerns about reactions to the anesthetic, but they still watch closely for it.

My son had surgery when he was 17 months, and again when he was 16. He's never had a problem going under and coming out, except to say "All I remember about the first one is you were holding me, I fell asleep, and woke up in a different town"...Which is funny, because we didn't actually move for another year and a half, but he remembers it differently.

If you have concerns, most surgeons will let you go in with your little one as they're being put under, but before they sterilize things for surgery. Is the surgery being done in a pediatric facility (children's hospital, for example)?
